Magnus Moriarty™ is the main project of Magnus Nielsen. He debuted in 2001 with the album Drive fast slow right left. Half of the year he spends at a cemetery where he digs holes in the ground and plants flowers. During the winter season he is in the studio continuously records new music and living out the myth of the decadent bohemian lifestyle that fuels new albums. This combination of down-to-earth, hard, honest work and artistic excesses that include absinthe, violin, and 12-string guitars stamps its mark on the music. The lyrics are clearly inspired by beat literature, and are accompanied by melodies that evoke thoughts both forward and backward in time. Middle Ages, Roman Era, and Atomic Age are all represented in Magnus Moriarty’s universe. Beautiful folk music-like melodies oscillate between the intimate and the intergalactic, and even though the sun might shine on the graveyard, darkness always threatens six feet down.
