POP43 – Nacho Cheese (and Anarchy)

The Ethnobabes don’t really sound like any other band because they aren’t really like any other band. Comprised of the standard instruments for a band, at times you can also hear banjo, flute, kazoo, synth and various other instruments I can’t even begin to describe.
The first song- “The Odd Shopper”- has a female vocal melody much like you would think of Julie Andrews as singing in “the Sound of Music”. I kid you not.
From there, twelve tracks of an indie rock kind of feel with some added element I can’t quite put my finger on, and the Ethnobabes make a killer release.
There is no downside to this CD. It’s very original and quite good. It doesn’t sound too much like anything else, yet also strays away from being too far out there and still captures some familiarity for you to relate to with other music.
