The Ethnobabes – You Can’t Make Me EP (Perfect Pop)
Shifting gears a bit, The Ethnobabes are a far cry from Nuggets country. This EP contains seven short simple female-sung pop songs that float along on a puffy cloud of twee, and lest you take that as a criticism, I mean that in the most complimentary of ways. Unlike a lot of the sort of twee indie-pop that misses the mark on melody, most of these songs are pure hooky, chiming, guitar pop, mainly of the uptempo sort, save for the pensive flute-adorned “Tales You Told” (a relative epic, at 3 minutes) and “Waltz Away”, which does just that, in a dreamy near-whisper.
